From Patrick's Blog: Joe Wilson vs. Kanye West

Joe Wilson thinks the proposed health care reform would provide health care to illegal immigrants in spite of the already enacted Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 already prohibits illegal immigrants from utilizing federal programs. This also misleads in implying that there is something in the proposed health care reform that suggests illegal immigrants would be allowed to receive treatment, which is false on Joe Wilson's part. Furthermore, there would be no reason to write into an act what was already written into another, I.E. to further illegalize that which is already illegal on a federal level.

Kanye West thinks Beyonce, who's video "Single Ladies," was great.

Joe Wilson refuses to apologize more than once for interrupting the undisputedly elected President of the United States of America by insinuating that he was lying in the middle of his speech, a feat hitherto unheard of in American politics. While rightly more apologies would simply distract from the debate at hand, the public pronouncing of the end to his apologies also distracts from the debate and instead belies a strong partisanship and lack of desire for compromise.

Kanye West has, to date, apologized at least three times publicly (and countless times privately).

Joe Wilson is an elected official.

Kanye West was drunk.

Please stop comparing the two, and if you must be outraged by someone, regardless of your politics please be outraged by Joe Wilson. What he did shows a profound disrespect for the office he holds as well as the office of president. What Kanye did was simply a stupid drunken act of a stupid drunken private citizen. I will always remain a fan of his music, just not always a fan of his actions. That said I'm not sure Kanye is currently a fan of his own actions and I'm not always a fan of my own.

As for Taylor Swift, I never take my hat off but hats off to you. If you keep writing songs like that you'll have way more award acceptance speeches to look forward to.

PS. On an unrelated note, I have elected to no longer update this site in a blog capacity (as you may have already noticed with the above being a final exception). As a parting shot I'd like to clarify three things: 1) I do not nor will I ever have or operate in any capacity any form of social networking site or device (e.g. Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, etc.) Should you find one claiming to be me, it is and any information included within, without question false. As future sites and devices come out, expect me not to participate with them. 2) In liu of social networking, I have decided to, in the future, publicly express myself exclusively through my artistic pursuits. 3) Expect some big changes to this site (a very minor update in October, followed by a much bigger one) as well as some news from me. Thank you, and have a good autumn.

Awesome insights. I agree 100 percent. It's also neat that you're staying away from the whole social networking thing. Nice.

big news from Patrick ,,,i'm so excited!!!.........altho interruptng a president is not unprecedented,,George Bush got a shoe thrown at him and got boos during his speeches.....personally i'm all for free speech but what Kanye did was straight up wrong,, Taylor Swift is a young lady who is not expecting to have to defend herself against grown drunken men. Joe Wilson should have been more respectful and held his comment for later at a more appropriate time, but Obama is a grown man I think he can handle it. ....rant over..... I Love Autumn

either way it shouldnt have been done in both situations..... dont make kanye seem worse... they were both wrong... which is what patrick is tryinh to say

anywhooo..... awwww patrick, i respect the fact that your not gonna be posting things.... but as a fan it is nice to hear from you from time to time ;)

Well said , Patrick! I am gonna be sad to see you won't be updating your website. Glad you cleared that up about the social network sites. The number of times I have come accross a "Patrick Stump" on Facebook! I hate the fact that these people are imitating you just so they can be popular. That is sad & pathetic. These people need to get a life & not someone elses!

Hi Patrick -- I'm a huge fan of your music, but... let's talk. As you note above, Wilson *did* apologize to the president. You say, "Please stop comparing the two" *after* tallying the *number* of apologies (and I question your claim of West apologizing "countless times privately"...it they were private apologies, how could you possibly know?) Again Patrick, nothing but love from me, but c'mon. You note a "lack of desire for compromise." My wife (also a Patrick fan) has an incurable (so far) chronic disease that costs me dearly financially, so heath care is quite literally a critical issue for my family: I have no wish to compromise on her care. And yet, those of us who attended town halls with our elected representatives on the subject were painted as "teabaggers." Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the [same] House which censured Wilson, said of us, "I think they're Astroturf... They're carrying swastikas." I don't recall her apology, nor do I remember you posting here to demand one. I certainly don't condone Wilson's outburst, but when people are smeared as Nazis, I certainly understand the frustration that led to it. But heck, nevermind me... I must just be one of them there "extra-chromosome right wingers" that the former VP warned about.
