September 15, 2009From Patrick's Blog: Joe Wilson vs. Kanye West
Joe Wilson thinks the proposed health care reform would provide health care to illegal immigrants in spite of the already enacted Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 already prohibits illegal immigrants from utilizing federal programs. This also misleads in implying that there is something in the proposed health care reform that suggests illegal immigrants would be allowed to receive treatment, which is false on Joe Wilson's part. Furthermore, there would be no reason to write into an act what was already written into another, I.E. to further illegalize that which is already illegal on a federal level.
Kanye West thinks Beyonce, who's video "Single Ladies," was great. Joe Wilson refuses to apologize more than once for interrupting the undisputedly elected President of the United States of America by insinuating that he was lying in the middle of his speech, a feat hitherto unheard of in American politics. While rightly more apologies would simply distract from the debate at hand, the public pronouncing of the end to his apologies also distracts from the debate and instead belies a strong partisanship and lack of desire for compromise. Kanye West has, to date, apologized at least three times publicly (and countless times privately). Joe Wilson is an elected official. Kanye West was drunk. Please stop comparing the two, and if you must be outraged by someone, regardless of your politics please be outraged by Joe Wilson. What he did shows a profound disrespect for the office he holds as well as the office of president. What Kanye did was simply a stupid drunken act of a stupid drunken private citizen. I will always remain a fan of his music, just not always a fan of his actions. That said I'm not sure Kanye is currently a fan of his own actions and I'm not always a fan of my own. As for Taylor Swift, I never take my hat off but hats off to you. If you keep writing songs like that you'll have way more award acceptance speeches to look forward to. PS. On an unrelated note, I have elected to no longer update this site in a blog capacity (as you may have already noticed with the above being a final exception). As a parting shot I'd like to clarify three things: 1) I do not nor will I ever have or operate in any capacity any form of social networking site or device (e.g. Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, etc.) Should you find one claiming to be me, it is and any information included within, without question false. As future sites and devices come out, expect me not to participate with them. 2) In liu of social networking, I have decided to, in the future, publicly express myself exclusively through my artistic pursuits. 3) Expect some big changes to this site (a very minor update in October, followed by a much bigger one) as well as some news from me. Thank you, and have a good autumn. -p.v.stump

May 15, 2009Fall Out Boy joins the Blink-182 Summer TourEver since I heard "dude ranch" I knew I wanted to meet blink-182. They basically were saying and doing everything I wanted to, only in smarter and funnier ways. To have the chance to join them on tour has always been a dream for our band. We thought we probably would never have the chance. It’s good for music that blink-182 is making noise again. I'm really happy to be able to see it from such a close point of view. - Pete Wentz

February 12, 2009How to tell the difference between Patrick Stump and Stump the spaniel. This morning a lot of rock fans woke up with some confusing headlines in their RSS feeds: Somebody named Stump had suddenly shot to stardom. But it wasn’t Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump, but Stump the spaniel, who became the oldest canine in history to win the prestigious Westminster Dog Show. So how can you tell Stump the pup from Stump the singer? A quick guide: Pedigree: Patrick Stump: 24-year-old from Glenville, Illinois (born Patrick Martin Stumph) Stump: 10-year-old Sussex Spaniel (born Ch. Clussexx Three D Grinchy Glee) Attention-Hogging Colleague: Patrick Stump: Pete Wentz Stump: J. R., a bichon frisé who won Best in Show at Westminster in 2001 with Stump’s handler, Scott Sommer Review of Peter Tosh’s The Ultimate Peter Tosh Experience: Patrick Stump: “If Bob Marley was reggae’s Bob Dylan, Peter Tosh was its MC5: less accessible, more cocky and a whole hell of a lot more dangerous.” Stump: “Woof.” Played Madison Square Garden? Patrick Stump: FOB’s last performance there was November 14, 2007 on the Young Wild Things Tour Stump: Won the Westminster there on Tuesday Distinctive Physical Attributes: Patrick Stump: Floppy hat, slow gait, strawberry-blond coloring Stump: Floppy ears, slow gait, golden-red coloring Signature Trick: Patrick Stump: Collaborating with R&B stars Stump: Standing on his hind legs and begging What’s Next: Patrick Stump: FOB’s Believers Never Die Part Deux tour

January 30, 2009From Patrick's Blog: Actual News! Woohoo!![]() When it rains it pours I guess. For starters I'm getting back to some writing/producing...whenever I have free time that is. My friends in both the Cab and Cobra Starship are working on new records and I'm working my ass off to sprinkle a little Stump on them hahaha. Goodness that sounds dreadful. I also think I'm going to swing by my friend Kenna's session with an amazing young singer and perhaps contribute to that brainstorm a little. I'm really excited, Kenna's already brought in Chad Hugo and those two are easily part of the MENSA for songwriters (I'm sure something like that exists and that they are probably not actually members but mostly because they're too cool to be all cliquey). I'm about to watch what I hope to be the final cut of the Moustachette. As soon as I know for sure it is indeed completed I can update the internets on the when where and how of its debut. I tried to post a picture of my guitar but I still don't understand this internets machine. Infernal contraption. So if you see it, you see it. If not, sorry. But I've been playing it everywhere lately so look out for the silver and black striped Gretsch corvette. That's the Stump-o-matic. -p.v.stump

January 9, 2009From Patrick's Blog: Lots of news...
So, Folie A Deux is officially done recording and has been since Friday. Neal (producer), Erich (engineer), Kiki (assistant), Walter (guitar tech), Joe (Trohman) and I spent the last week of guitar overdubs/vocal extras reading Jack Handey books. Deep Thoughts. Every one's a winner. We were pretty much laughing the entire last week of the record which was a nice change of pace from the much publicized fighting we'd been doing for the first month or so.
Basically I went straight from the studio to the video shoot for "I Don't Care" which was a lot of fun but a ton of work. It was good to be back with our good friend Alan Furguson (and to be honest man, I'm not totally sure how to spell your name/which spelling you use but you're like family to me anyway...if not mysterious family) and he brought some really cool visuals to the video. Basically in my free time leading up to this record I'd tried out a bunch of different creative things and learned a lot about what I liked doing and what I didn't. Some of those things I may try to do more of, some of them I'll never try again. I think I liked directing, and I think I'll try more of it. I put editing my short film on hold so I could focus on this record. Now that it's done I think it's time to get back on the horse, eh? Also, don't you think there should be a vegetarian/vegan Chicago Pizza place? Maybe I'll try doing that. I've been listening to "Love Lockdown" on repeat. Damn you Kanye, everything you do is genius. I feel like there's more news but I can't think of it. Today was my mom's birthday, so thanks Mom for being born. -p.stump
